The Abandoned Lot

And I can't wait to dream again. 'Cause that's the only time I feel free from all this crap, and I can live the life I wanna. I don't wanna wake up forever. Maybe that's best for me.

The fluorescent lights in history class buzzed. Mrs. Henderson was droning on about Napoleon—a dramatic saga of conquest and defeat. I just stared at the map. "The ebb and flow of empires," she said. But what about the ebb and flow of a single, insignificant life?

Ugh. I can't even pretend to care anymore. My head feels like it's going to explode. All those dates, all those battles... it's just a jumble of meaningless information.

School feels like a prison. My parents always push me. They keep comparing me to my sister like I'm some kind of disappointment. And even Elena's drifting away, caught up in that stupid popularity contest. Oh, I just wanna disappear. Maybe then I wouldn't feel this suffocating pressure anymore.

The bell finally rang, snapping me out of my daze. Everyone surged towards the exit. But I remained rooted to my seat. My backpack feels heavy.

Summer break should be exciting. The prospect of lazy days by the pool, late-night movies with my friends... but it held no allure for me. All I can think about is escaping these shackles of reality.

On the walk home, I found myself drawn to the abandoned lot at the edge of town. Weeds sprouted wildly. The air thick with the smell of decay. It's always been a place I avoided, but today... it feels strangely comforting. I sank down onto the cracked concrete. The rough surface was surprisingly soothing. The sun beat down on my face, and the hum of the city began to fade. Closing my eyes, I surrendered to the seductive siren luring me deeper into the abyss. For a moment, I was flying, soaring above the clouds. Free from all this mess.

Laughter bubbled up from within. This was it. The freedom I'd craved with a desperate hunger.
